ANGLING IN RESERVOIRS

According to the revised Fisheries Law Cap. 170 of 1990 the Fisheries Regulations of 1990, Regulation 12, special licences must be obtained from the Head Office of Fisheries Department, Lefkosia or from the District Offices of Fisheries Department for those interested in angling in Dams.

Licences are personal and are issued to persons over 12 years old.

The fee is C£3.00 for each dam separately and C£10.00 for all dams. All licences issued expire by the end of each year.
Also group licences are issued to organised groups after application of the representative of the interested group.
This licence is valid for not more than 14 days and the fee is C£1.00 per person.

The Fisheries Department sells at C£2 each a booklet in English with coloured pictures of all fish found in the reservoirs and useful information to the anglers.

Licences are valid only when the dam is declared open by the Director of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research.

The reservois are stocked with 17 species of fish. The most popular are: Trout, largemouth bass, carp, pikeperch, roach, etc.
Twenty-one reservois in Cyprus provide excellent fresh-water fishing opportunities throughout the year. They are found in:

Lefkosia District
Kafizes reservoir: 78 km, (48 miles) from Lefkosia, North-West of Troodos mountains.
Kalopanagiotis reservoir: 70 km (44 miles) from Lefkosia, South-West of Troodos.
Lefka reservoir: 64 km, (40 miles) from Lefkosia on the Northern foothills of Troodos mountains
Lympia reservoir: 22 km (14 miles) South - East of Lefkosia town.
Palaichori reservoir: 39 km, (24 miles) from Lefkosia on the North slopes of Adelphoi mountains.
Xyliatos reservoir: 45 km, (28 miles) South-West of Lefkosia town.
