The mission of the Ministry of Health is the continuous improvement of the health of the inhabitants of Cyprus. This pertains to the prevention of disease, the provision for health of each citizen, respecting the rights of every patient and high quality medical care.

This includes the following factors:

• The emphasis of diseases and humanity data
• Ensuring equal opportunities for health care to all citizens
• Collaboration between the public health services and the private health sector
• The improvement of effectiveness and efficiency of the public health services

Health Departments

Medical and Public Health Services: Aim to improve the health and prevent illnesses while working in accordance with the principles set by the World Health Organisation and within the framework of the European perspective.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Services: is responsible for the promotion of public health by assuring that the citizens have access to safe and effective medicines.

Dental Services of the Ministry of Health: focus on promoting oral health with the ultimate goal of maintaining their natural teeth. They are focused on strengthening and improvement the dental services provided as well as the prevention of decay and diseases of oral health.

Mental health Services: provide effective care relating to treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of mental disorders. They work in accordance with the World Health Organization and E.U.

The State General Laboratory: provides data regarding laboratory aspects while developing a strong infrastructure providing efficient and effective services to the socio-economic sector.

Health care under EU regulations

According to the regulations, health care can be provided in Cyprus for all people from other EU Member States. The health care is provided to these members is the same and every member will be treated equally.
