There are many beach games available for children. Here follows a list and description of beach games. Some of the games are well known and others may enlighten you.


Shell Hunt: children must look for as many shells as they can. The first prize is won for the child that has found the most shells. The second prize is for the child with the biggest shell found that is not broken. The third prize is for the child that has the prettiest shell. A time limit is assigned, usually about 30min, depending on the children's age.

Water soccer: place a balloon filled with water on the ground. Design an area similar to a goal post. Blind fold the child and then the child must try kick the balloon into the goal with out breaking the balloon and reach the target. Each child gets the opportunity to take the penalty.


Jewellery: children must find shells or stones that they can make jewellery out of the items found. Make sure you take string and glue with so that the children can make necklaces, rings, watches or even bracelets. The glue will help them stick the items on the string or string can be used to wrap the items on.


Pop-the-Balloon: The balloon is filled with water. The children stand in a circle and pass the balloon to the person on the right. After the circle is completed the children take a step back. The same process is repeated until the balloon drops and bursts.


Beach hunt: several X marks are placed on the sand. The children need to dig up the area where the X is. Under one X mark lies a prize. The children can pair up or play individually.


Water Rally: children must be split into teams of three to four. Two buckets must be placed, one where the team begins and the other about 20 steps in front of the other. the bucket further is filled with water and the other is empty. The aim is to fill the empty bucket from the full bucket using a cup. Each team player must run and collect the water then empty it in the bucket. The first bucket full wins.


Sponge ‘it': a child is selected as ‘it'. The child then throws a soft, large, wet sponge to another child and he is then marked ‘it'. The children run around dogging the sponge. After a set time the child holding the sponge is marked as ‘it'.


Tug of water: children are split into teams of two. They hold a single rope but have small buckets of water around their arms. They need to pull the rope past the middle marker while tying not to get wet.

Splash: each child balances a bucket of water on their heads. The child who can balance the bucket on their head for the longest time wins. This is a fun game that is sure to make each child wet.


Sand castles: children must use all their beach toys to make the best castle. They can decorate their castles with shells and stones found on the beach.


Dig deep: children are separated into groups. They must dig a hole and filling the hole with as much water as possible. The deepest hole with the most water wins.


All these games are safe and are lots of fun. Children will be entertained for hours. Ensure that at all times children who are unable to swim should wear arm bands or any floating device. Children should be under the parent's supervision.
