In the 1960s camels were used all over Cyprus to help their owners move goods and produce.  However, when inter-communal problems began in 1964 the camels slowly began to disappear. 

In May 1998, this, the first Camel Park in Europe, was opened when Xenakis Chailis decided to bring back the camel to Cyprus and imported 25 from Israel.  Today the park has well over 40 camels, 15 of which have been born within the park.  Visitors can enjoy a ride around the grounds of the park, or take an exciting safari through the countryside. The ride lasts approximately 10 minutes and is well worth the price which can vary between CYP 2 and CYP 10 (depending on the chosen trip).  After the ride, for an extra 50 cents, visitors can also feed the camels.

The park also offers other facilities such as a swimming pool and a restaurant.
